ALLROUND SPORTSMAN: Chapa Weeraratne - an old boy of Dharmaraja
College, Kandy who represented the school in cricket and hockey from
1981 to 1984 is still active in the two sports and represents Old Rajans
in the two sports at competitive level.
During his hey days, Chapa was a dashing right-hand batsman and he
had a fine score of 150 runs against St. Sylvester's College, Kandy in
1981 and then he entered the Colombo University in 1985 and captained
both the cricket and hockey teams. He also had the privilege of leading
the Sri Lanka Schools Hockey team as a student of Dharmaraja before
getting into the University.
At the Colombo University he had a top score of 120 runs against the
BRC in a division two match in 1987. He was a bright student and
followed the commerce stream and passed out with a 2nd Class Upper
Division but he could not pursue his studies as he had to look after the
father's business after his death.
