Fishermen's problems to be brought before ministers

Problems faced by the fishermen of the Mullaitivu district will be brought to the attention of ministers during the district development meeting, Mullaitivu District Secretary S. Pathinathan said. These problems have already been brought to the attention of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne, he said.

He noted that in case solutions are not found for these problems, they will again be brought to the attention of ministers.

Poaching in the Eastern seas by outsiders has especially dealt a severe blow to the livelihood of local fishermen in inter-land areas.

Inter-land fishermen cannot fish in their own region in the Eastern coastal belt, Pathinathan said.
