AALCO holds 50th Annual Sessions
The Asian African Legal Consultative Organization (AALCO) will hold
its 50th Annual Session from today till July 1, at the Cinnamon Lakeside
Hotel. President Mahinda Rajapaksa will inaugurate the session. Eminent
persons such as Justice Owada, President of the International Court of
Justice is due to participate at the session.
Sri Lanka is privileged to hold the Golden Jubilee session of this
event in Sri Lanka.
AALCO is considered to be a tangible outcome of the Bandung
Conference held in Indonesia in 1955. Sri Lanka is a founder member.
Member States of AALCO meet annually to exchange views, experiences and
information on matters of common interest having legal implications and
to make recommendations if deemed necessary. The recommendations of
AALCO are taken note of by the UN and have often served to influence the
structuring of international law. This is the fourth time that Sri Lanka
is holding a session.
The AALCO comprises 47 Member States. High level representatives of
Member States including Ministers of Justice, Attorneys General,
Solicitors General and Legal Advisors of the Ministries of Foreign
Affairs and Justice of the Member States participate in the
deliberations on international issues that are placed on the agenda of
the organisation.
Over 200 foreign delegates will participate in the Golden Jubilee
session.
