The world’s tallest Buddha Statue (in the sitting position) will be consecrated in Handapanagala in the Uva Province. Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne last week laid the foundation stone for the 280-feet statue at the precincts of the Kanabisuvarama Viharaya, Handapanagala. The construction will take five years. Kandy Esala perahera begins on July 30

The Kandy Esala perahera will commence on July 30 and the final night perahera will be on August 13 followed by the water-cutting ceremony at Gatambe Mahaweli river on August 14.

The four Devale peraheras will be held from July 30 to August 3 with the Kumbal perahera from August 4 to 8 and the Randoli from August 9 to 13.
