UPFA polls campaign for LG bodies at village level

The UPFA election campaign for the forthcoming Local Government election is being organised at village level, said Petroleum Industries Minister and UPFA General Secretary Susil Premajayantha.

The SLFP’s all-island working committee which met at Temple Trees on Thursday expressed its confidence of an easy victory.

Elections for 234 of the 335 Local Government bodies were held last March and the UPFA won 205 Local Government bodies.

Elections for the remaining 67 Local Government bodies had to be postponed due to legal snags. Elections for Local Government bodies except in three will be held on July 23.

Meanwhile, elections for the remaining Municipal Councils, Urban Councils and Pradeshiya Sabhas will be held in September, according to the Elections Department sources.
