After the scores had been level three all at half time the last
year's runners-up came back magnificently to turn the game in their
favour while scoring a goal and a try in the second half.
The Havies managed to score only a goal in the second half as CR and
FC clinched the Commander Eustace Mathysz Trophy.
Havelocks SC opened scoring early in the first half through a 30
metre penalty from centre Atella Uaisele. CR and FC equalized shortly
before half time with fly half Reza Mubarak firing across a good
penalty.
CR and FC then began to dominate the game in the second quarter with
Reza Mubarak scoring their first try near the corner flag. The dynamic
fly half also added the extra points and CR and FC were ahead 10-3 at
that stage. CR and FC virtually sealed the game in their favour when
Gunaratne added the finishing touches to a splendid three quarter move
mid way in the second half. Mubarak missed the conversion but CR and FC
were well on their way towards victory having stretched their lead to
15-3.
Havelocks SC had the satisfaction of scoring a consolation try during
the final moments of the game when wing three quarter Anuruddha Wilwara
fell over near the corner flag. Atella Uaisele added the extra points.
