St. Peter's clinch Milo trophy
St. Peter's College clinched the Milo Schools Under-18 Division I,
Ten-a-Side rugby title when they defeated Royal College 21-3 in the Cup
championship final worked off at Longden Place yesterday.
The last year's runners-up continued with their excellent form in the
tournament and collected their points from three goals after having led
14-3 at half time. Royal managed to put over only a solitary penalty.
Kevin Anthony scored twice and Anuruddha Herath scored one try for
the winners with Kenute Jerome converting all three tries. St. Peter's
College had the better of Trinity College Kandy in the semifinals and
defeated Kingswood College in the quarter-finals.
Royal earlier scored a stunning victory over the fancied Isipatana
College team and went on to beat the giant killers Science College Mount
Lavinia in the semi-finals.
Meanwhile the last year's Cup Champions Dharmaraja College, Kandy had
to be content with the Plate title as they defeated St. Joseph's College
19-10 in the final encounter.
Ananda College had the consolation of winning the Bowl championship
when they trounced Thurstan College 22 nil in the final encounter. (CD)
