The Government yesterday condemned the terror attacks in Norway and
extended its condolences to those affected by the dastardly acts.

The Foreign Ministry quoting
Sri Lanka’s Ambassador in Oslo, Rodney Perera said there
were no reports of Sri Lankans being affected in Friday’s
tragic bomb explosion and shooting incidents in Norway.
Foreign Ministry’s Public
Communications Director General Sarath Dissanayake said that
over 15,000 Sri Lankans were living in Norway but the
chances of any Sri Lankan being injured in the attacks were
highly remote as the bomb exploded in their administrative
headquarters and the shoot out targeted a youth camp
organised by the ruling Labour Party in an island retreat
where all participants were said to be Norwegians.

A statement issued by the External Affairs Ministry said there is no
other country which could understand the pain and suffering of the
Norwegian people at this devastating time, than Sri Lanka, as Sri Lanka
too had suffered the same pain and sorrow so profoundly during the past
three decades at the hands of the most brutal terrorist outfit in the
world.
“The Government of Sri Lanka condoles with the Government of Norway,
the people of Norway and the families of the victims of the dastardly
bombing and shooting incidents that took place in the centre of Oslo and
at the youth camp near Oslo on Friday, and assures that Sri Lanka stands
with the people of Norway and offers its deepest sympathies, the
Ministry said.
The Acting Minister of External Affairs Neomal Perera said it was sad
to see the Norwegian people experiencing this kind of terrorism. “World
leaders and the entire international community have a moral
responsibility to work towards curbing terrorism,” he said. |
