Fonseka violating Prisons Ordinance - Azwer
UPFA Parliamentarian A.H.M. Azwer said that ex-DNA MP Sarath Fonseka
has violated the Prisons Ordinance by making various statements to the
media.
According to Section 68 of the Prisons Ordinance, a prisoner cannot
talk to the media or make statements to the media. Therefore, Sarath
Fonseka has violated the Prisons Ordinance by making various statements
to the media, Azwer told the Sunday Observer.
He said he raised this matter in Parliament on Thursday and drew the
attention of the Government. The Government should take serious note on
the violation of the Prisons Ordinance by Fonseka. The Justice Minister
should also provide guidelines to the Commissioner General of Prisons to
take action in this regard.
Azwer said that the statements made by Fonseka against the President
and the Government to undermine the development process are published in
the newspapers. A prisoner has no right whatsoever to make such
statements to the media which is a violation of the Prisons Ordinance.
The Government should immediately stop this. Else other prisoners may
also resort to such acts.
