Dehiowita, a developing township of Ruwanwella electorate in the
Kegalle district with a substantial population, received the Sri Lanka
Telecom (SLT) broadband facility with Internet accessibility recently.
This facility was a long-felt need in the area.
The project was inaugurated by Minister of Telecommunications and
Information Technology Ranjith Siyambalapitiya last Monday.
The Minister said that the Government had taken all measures to
enhance the socio-economic standard of the people in the country in
keeping with the Mahinda Chinthana Idiri Dekma after the successful
eradication of ruthless LTTE terrorism which had been a cancer to the
nation over the last two and a half decades.
The Minister said that Information Technology is of paramount
importance to the younger generation to accumulate knowledge to march
forward towards development.
Young people can derive from this service a wide knowledge in any
field of study they intend to follow and make their careers more
prosperous, powerful and demanding.
At the same time, the Minister requested the parents to be vigilant
with their children's activities since it also entails information which
leads to the destruction of young lives.
Sabaragamuwa Provincial Councillor and SLFP Chief Organiser of
Ruwanwella electorate Dr. Parakrama Athauda also addressed the
gathering.
SLT Regional Head Saman Abeygunasekera, Head of the Sabaragamuwa
Province Sanjaya Kumara and Avissawella Manager Sanjaya Perera were also
present along with representatives from all State institutions in the
area and some of the prospective applicants who had been anxiously
waiting for this service.
