Central Province Schools Cross Country Race:
Sri Rahula College emerge champions

Runners from Sri Rahula College, Katugastota excelled at the annual
girls and boys Central Province Schools cross country race organised by
the Nanoda Organisation in conjunction with the Department of Education
of the Central Province and worked off in Kandy yesterday.
Over 200 runners from schools in the Central Province participated in
this cross country race which was flagged off by the Chief Minister of
the Central Province Sarath Ekanayake opposite his official residence
near the Sri Dalada Maligawa. The runners ran through the backwoods of
the hill through Lewella, Buwelikada, Sirimalwatte, Yakkgahapitiya and
the finish was at Sri Rahula College grounds, Katugastota.
H. M. S. Kumarasinghe of Pushpadana Vidyalaya, Ambatenna won the
Central Province race for boys with a timing of 43.42 minutes. A few
metres behind him was the second placed K. R. M. K. N. V. Ratnayake of
St. Sylvester’s College, Kandy with a timing of 43.55 minutes - 13
seconds separated them.
The Central Province championship for girls turned out to be a clean
sweep for girls from Sri Rahula College, Katugastota who clinched the
first three places.
The team championship for both boys and girls was won by Sri Rahula
College who completed a fine double.
