DSS stun Kingswood 10/0

D. S. Senanayake College, Colombo created the biggest upset of the day when they registered a convincing 10 points (2 tries) to nil win over Kingswood College on the opening day of the schools Under 16 Division One rugby tournament organised by the Sri Lanka Schools Rugby Football Association and Central Province Rugby Football Association and sponsored by the Health drink Milo and worked off at the Bogambara Stadium, Kandy yesterday. At half time winners led 5-0. The matches will be continued today at 8.40 a.m. and the finals at 5 p.m.

It was the pace and power exerted by D. S. Senanayake College ruggerites which upset the Kingswoodians who were the defending champions. With this defeat Kingswood College were relegated to the bowl segment.

D. S. Senanayake College continued their fine performance by defeating St. Thomas College Prep by the big margin of 22 points (1 goal 3 tries) to nil to qualify for the quarter finals of the Cup Championship where they are billed to meet St. Peters College today at 8.40 a.m.

St. Peter's College, Bambalapitiya appear to be one of the top contenders for the cup Championship as they win both their matches by comfortable margins yesterday. They beat Piliyandala Central College 29-0 and later trounced Ananda College 36-0.

Carey College also put up a good performance to defeat the more fancied Wesley College by 26 points (3 goals, 1 try) to nil.

In the final game of the day played under poor light conditions Trinity College defeated their traditional rivals St. Anthony's College 19-0 to qualify for the Cup quarter finals: Royal College, Isipathana College, D. S. Senanayake College, St. Peter's College, Mahanama College, Dharmaraja College, Trinity College and St. Joseph's College have qualified to play in the cup quarter finals.
