Lasith Lakshan a top batsman in the making

CRICKET: Warnaka Watta Waduge Lasith Lakshan - the captain of
St. Thomas' College Matara under-15 Division One cricket team is having
a great season.

St. Thomas' Matara has qualified for the pre quarter-finals of the
under 15 division one tournament and the credit for their good showing a
should go to Lasith Lakshan.
He is a right-hand batsman and right-arm paceman. In batting, he has
scored 783 runs so far in the tournament and ticked into it has been 35
sixes and 97 fours in the nine matches played in round one and two of
the tournament, in bowling, he has taken 15 wickets and is also quite a
capable fielder taking 15 catches.

bat, vs Mahinda College, Galle: 38, vs Amarasuriya M.V.
Meepawala: 210, vs Rahula College, Matara: 116, vs
Karandeniya Central:55, vs St. Sylvester's, Kandy: 38, vs S. Thomas'
College, Mount Lavinia: 77, vs Ananda College, Colombo: 142 not out.
He started his schooling at Olcott Primary School and joined sixth
grade of St. Thomas' Matara. Lasith learnt his first lessons in cricket
from Imal Liyanage at the IP Cricket Academy in 2007 and was guided by
Sisira Weerasingha - the master-in-charge of cricket at STC Matara and
Charith Pallmage. He is now under Amila Witharana. Two others who have
helped Lasith in his cricket are Sri Lanka Cricket's District Coach
Matara Prasanna Galappaththi and Sisira Handunge. Lasith Lakshan was a
member of the Sri Lanka Schools under 15 cricket team that toured
Malaysia in April this year and a bright future is forecast for this boy
if he keeps to his cricket. |
