Over 550,000 students to sit GCE (OL) exam

The GCE Ordinary Level examination 2011 will be held from December 12-21 at 3,600 centres islandwide. Over 550,000 candidates including 310,000 school candidates will sit the examination this year, Examinations Commissioner General Anura Edirisinghe said.

A special examination centre will be set up in Vavuniya for LTTE detainees and prison inmates have also been facilitated to sit the examination.

Fifty-two schools selected as evaluation centres will be closed for an additional five days to facilitate paper marking.

The Department will set up a paper evaluation centre in the Kilinochchi district for the first time.”We hope to begin evaluation of papers by December 28 and conclude in January,” he said.
