North-East issue :
PSC - Govt ready to accommodate both JVP factions
by Manjula FERNANDO
The Government said it was ready to accommodate members from both
factions of the divided JVP in the proposed Parliamentary Select
Committee (PSC) to seek a lasting solution to the North and the East
issue.
The Chief Negotiator and Minister Nimal Siripala De Silva said the
TNA, UNP and the JVP are yet to nominate their members for the PSC.
The JVP has said that they are not participating in the PSC. “It is
my view that the JVP’s contribution in the process is important. With
all the major parties, the PSC will be a sound forum to discuss this
contentious issue.”
He said the Somawansa group had said that they would disassociate
from the Select Committee but the dissidents are yet to make known their
stance on the PSC.”
There can be representations from both factions. We would be able to
accommodate them in the deliberations.”
He said when the TNA appoints its members, the Government is
confident that the UNP would also follow suit.
