Lankan gems on German stamps

A series of stamps depicting Sri Lankan gems was issued in Germany
recently, an Officer of the Postal Services Ministry told the Sunday
Observer.
Director of the Carl Faller Institute, Heike Faller who met Minister
Jeevan Kumaratunga at his Ministry recently, presented the stamps to
him.
Minister Kumaratunga said at a time certain Western countries were
issuing stamps on behalf of the LTTE, harming the sovereignty of this
country, Germany has issued a series of stamps depicting the heritage of
Sri Lanka.
The attempts of LTTE activists in certain Western countries to
humiliate Sri Lanka and the Government through the issue of stamps for
the LTTE did not succeed, the Minister said.
Minister Kumaratunga condemned such activities and said that nobody
can cause damage to Sri Lanka at this point of time.
Faller said that there are a large number of philatelists in Germany
who are keen on collecting Sri Lankan stamps.
He promised that no room will be provided to harm Sri Lanka's image
in Germany by issuing stamps.
These stamps were printed with the approval of the German Government.
