Solid waste management plants at district level
The Central Environment Authority (CEA) is setting up solid waste
management plants at district level.
The CEA under the Pilisaru project will provide technical and
infrastructure support for the project.
Around 100 projects have been launched already. The next project will
be launched this week in Galle at a cost of Rs. 85 million to address
the solid waste problem in the Galle Municipal Council, Ambalangoda and
Hikkaduwa Urban Councils, Balapitiya and Bopepoddala Pradeshiya Sabhas.
The project will be inaugurated by Environment Minister Anura
Priyadarshana Yapa.
Manufacturing compost is the best solid waste management project for
Sri Lanka as most of the waste is of degradable nature.
The CEA will launch more waste management programs with the support
of the local government authorities this year.
