by Ranjan ANANDAPPA
The first ever Golf Simulator which was declared open last Friday at
the Pleasure Golf Studio in Bambalapitiya will no doubt stimulate more
and more youngsters to take up the sport at the highest level.
The Golf Simulator, the first in the country was declared open by
sponsor Mahasena Jayatileka and Mrs. Indira Jayatileka opening a new
chapter in the annals of golf in the country.
The Simulator is a concept of Sports Coach System. Using
state-of-the-art surround Golf Simulator technology to bring the most
advance and powerful instructional tool that will help improve one’s
game with comprehensive and accurate visual swing analysis and other key
information on various aspect of your shot.Nick Sedgwick of Proshot
Sports of Surrey, London who spoke at the opening ceremony said that the
whole concept is to develop golf to the next level. In countries like
England and America there are lot of Simulators and the reason for that
is the weather.
“During the rainy season when players want to practise the whole year
around, and this is very much giving opportunities to practise using the
latest technology.
The Simulator will also give the environment to play golf if it is
raining. You can play courses or otherwise. Golf is a technical game and
it is very much about knowing your numbers. How far you hit the ball and
where do you hit the ball?.” he said.
“Lot of people in Sri Lanka doesn’t get the opportunity to play
smashes, discover they can come here and it is first hand. It is also
all about junior golf development, you start bringing in the youngsters
on and having a fun environment and try golf.
Because you could have the next winner. You may pay a nominal rate
coming to the Simulator and you may try it and you may love it. Going
into a golf club you couldn’t do that.
If you practise here and develop your game here, you could be a much
better player out there.” said Nick Sedgwick.
