Trinity create record – get 1,035 points at 7th CPNAG swim meet

SWIMMING: National Swimming Champions Trinity college created a
record when they became the first team to top the thousand-point mark
when they amassed a whopping 1,035 points at the seventh annual Age
Group and Novices Swimming Championship (CPNAG)) meet organised by the
Central Province Aquatic Sports Association and sponsored by Nutella
Hazel Nut Spread from Italy and worked off at the University Swimming
Pool at Peradeniya.
This was seventh age-group championship title win in this
championship by the Trinitians who stamped their class by topping the
thousand point mark.
This they achieved in the absence of their star swimmer and captain
of the Sri Lanka team Heshan Unamboowe who is away in Australia
undergoing training in swimming on a scholarship.
Trininty College won four out of the five age group championship and
the only one which they could not win was in the over 16 age group which
was won by Thiskaya Abeysinghe of Trinity College. But Trinity College
had swimmers like skipper Lashan Senaratne and Shehan de Silva in this
age group.
Apart from the Age Group championship Trinity college also carried
Novices Championship with 252 points against 171 by Kingswood College.
Mahamaya girls College once again underlined their supremacy in water
sports when they won the Age Group Championship for girls for the
seventh consecutive aggregating 654 points against 378 by Hillwood
College but Hillwood College hit back by annexing the Novices
championship for girls with a total of 240 points against 147 by
Hillwood College.
The occasion was graced by the Supreme Court Judge from Maldive
Islands Justice Ahamed Muthasim Adnan as the guest of honour.

Under-12: Devubdhaya Jayawardena (Mahamaya Girls College)
Under-14: Vinoli Siriwardena (Mahamaya Girls College)
Under-16: Thisari Karunatillake (Girls High School)
Over-16 - Joint Champions: Hananee Weeratunga (University of
Peradeniya, Nelum Uduwawela (Gateway College, Kandy), Dilki Perera
(Girls High School).
