Ranaviru Month begins tomorrow
The Ministry of Defence and Urban Development has declared the month
starting from April 30 to May 30 as “Ranaviru Month” to commemorate war
heroes of Armed Services and Police.The first Ranaviru (War Hero) Flag
will be pinned on President Mahinda Rajapaksa tomorrow at Temple Trees.
A series of events will be held to coincide with the Ranaviru Month
including the Victory Parade at the Galle Face Green on May 18 and the
War Hero commemoration at the Ranaviru Monument near Parliament at Sri
Jayawardhanapura, Kotte on May 19.
It was on May 19, 2009 that the Security Forces completed the
humanitarian mission aimed at liberating the Northern masses from the
LTTE ending the LTTE terrorism.Ranaviru commemoration programs will be
held in all provinces under the patronage of the Governors of each
province parallel to the main ceremony to commemorate war heroes.
