Security in Colombo, Nuwara Eliya and Jaffna will be beefed up as
several political rallies will be held in these towns to mark the May
Day celebrations this year, Police Media Spokesman, SP Ajith Rohana told
the Sunday Observer.
The spokesman said additional policemen will be deployed in Colombo
from the outstations to provide security in the city and for those
participating in the three major political rallies in Colombo.
The three major rallies are the UPFA rally at the Colombo Town Hall
grounds, the JVP rally at the BRC grounds and the Ranasinghe Premadasa
commemoration rally.
The roads leading to these venues will be closed to traffic around 12
p.m. when the processions begin.
Provincial rallies will be held at Ginigathhena, Pundalu Oya and in
Nuwara Eliya. The Opposition rally will be held in Jaffna while rallies
will also be held in Gurunagar.
