Upanetha at Lionel Wendt
The Upanetha Image Arts Festival 2012 organised by the University of
Kelaniya will be held from October 22-24, at the Lionel Wendt Art
Gallery. The opening ceremony will be at 5 pm tomorrow and the chief
guest will be cinematographer Dr. (Mrs.) Sumithra Peries. The exhibition
will feature the work of final year students specialising in Image Arts.
The University of Kelaniya conducts a special degree in Image Arts.
Within the four years of their academic study, undergraduates master the
basics of photography, videography, cinematography and editing. The
exhibition is the culmination of four years of dedication, hardwork and
perseverance.
Senasuru Maruva
Well-known film and teledrama director Udyakantha Warnasuriya has
launched his latest Sinhala film Senasuru Maruva.
The cast includes Lucky Dias, Channa Perera, Sheshadri, Buddhika
Jayaratne, Nadeeka Gunasekara, Kanthi Lanka, Indika Ginige, Tharik
Raheem, Dhanawardane Guruge, Nimal Anthony, Ajith Weerasinghe, Tyronne
Michael, Senaka Wijesinghe, Sampath Jayaweera, Ranjith Rubasinghe,
Panduka Sri Dayan, Sudesh Vasantha Peiris, Gamini Wijesinghe and Visakha
Jayaweera.
Balloth Ekka Be at Borella YMBA and Lumbini Theatre
Ravindra Ariyarathne's Balloth Ekka Be will be staged on October 25
at 3.30 p.m. and 6.45 p.m. at the YMBA theatre, Borella and on October
27 at 3.30 p.m. and 6.45 p.m. at the Lumbini Theatre, Havelock Town.
The cast includes Wijaya Nandasiri, Kumara Thirimadura, Roshan
Pilapitiya, Gihan Fernando and Anusha Dissanayaka.
Kalu Kumari at Punchi Theatre

Award-winning dramatist K.B. Herat's latest drama Kalu Kumari will be
staged at Namal-Malini Punchi Theatre, Borella on October 24 at 3.30
p.m. and 6.45 p.m.
The cast includes Nalin Pradeep Uduwela, Madini Malwatte, Sumith
Rathnayake, Ferny Roshini, Chandrasoma Binduhewa, Dulanjali Wijesena,
Pinsara Samarasekara, Nishan Deshapriya, Uditha Sameera Liyanage and
Kelum Kalhari Gamlath.
Crafts in Action 2012 at National Art Gallery

Manel Gamage, a well-known arts and crafts teacher together with her
students will hold an arts and crafts exhibition at the National Art
Gallery on October 30 and 31 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
A past pupil of Musaeus College and the University of Colombo, Mrs.
Manel Gamage has introduced a variety of new embroidery techniques to
Sri Lankan women, such as Assisi embroidery, Kashmiri work, Chamakthi
embroidery, Ari work, Needlepoint and many other techniques.
She was trained in Canada, England, Singapore and Australia.
She has
been teaching arts and crafts for the past 20 years. She has published
nine books in different embroidery techniques.
Madyawediyakuge Asipatha at Punchi Theatre
Namel Weeramuni’s Madyawediyakuge Asipatha will be staged at the
Namla Malini Punchi Theatre, Borella on October 23 at 6.45 pm.
The cast includes Lalindra Dissanayake, Anil.K.Wijesignhe Dulanjali
Wijesena, Namel Weeramuni, Upul Snjeewa, Senevirathne Bandara, Pinsara
Samarasekera, Ishara Wickramasignhe, Darsana Obeysekera, Lakshman Udaya
Kumara, Dilini Prasadini, Turulika Gimhani, Damith Wilegoda, Buddhika
Prematilaka, Sangeeth Perera and Jayashan Rajitha. Music is composed and
directed by Visharada Jayatissa Alahakoon for the lyrics written by
Namel.
