Doctors transfers to see the light of day

All transfers of medical officers overdue from last year, will be completed by the end of this month, the Government Medical Officers Association told the Sunday Observer yesterday. "Around 400 medical officers whose transfers were overdue from last year, are now going to their new stations. More than 30 per cent of the transfers have already been effected.

The remaining transfers will be implemented by the end of the month" Dr Naveen de Soyza spokesman for the GMOA said. He said that the 2013 transfer list would also be published by the end of this month. "This is a victory for the GMOA. We have been demanding the Health Ministry to complete all overdue transfers of doctors and to publish this year's transfer list for a long time.

We are glad that these requests have been finally granted", he said.Attempts to block the transfers had been previously made by a small group of doctors of the GMOA union at the National Hospital who had staged a one-day strike and threatened to withdraw emergency services.
