St Joseph's College, Darley Road created a major upset winning the Father Peter A Pillai Trophy beating fancied St Peter's College, Bambalapitya by 31 runs in their annual one day encounter of the Battle of the Saints, which played at the R Premadasa Stadium yesterday.

Batting first, Josephians made 194 runs as they were bowled out in 50 overs. Shammi Senevirtane scored 42 runs. Skipper Sachin Hewawasam smashed 42 runs in 47 balls with two sixes and two fours.

Chasing a target of 195, St Peter's College were bowled out for 163 in 44.4 overs as right arm fast bowler Fabian Fernando excelled with 3 for 31 for Darley Road school. Peterite captain Dushan Hemantha showed some gutsy batting as the right hander cracked 60 runs in 71 balls with four fours and two sixes. St Joseph's College: 194 all out in 50 overs (Shammi Seneviratne 42, Sachin Hewawasam 41, Pethum Madusanka 36, Piyomal Perera 20, Sahan Nanayakkara 3/25, Janith Liyanage 2/39, Chamila Obeysekara 2/46)

St Peter's College: 163 all out in 44.4 overs (Dushan Hemantha 60, Sachin Fernando 23, Fabian Fernando 3/31).
