Lankaputhra Development Bank empowers entrepreneurs

A special loan scheme was introduced by the Lankaputhra Development
Bank recently for entrepreneurs of the North Western Province. The loan
is granted to self-employed people who are members of Fishery Societies,
Women's Societies and Cooperative Societies through the Wennappuwa
branch of Lankaputhra Development Bank.
The scheme was launched at the Chilaw Pambala Fisheries Ministry
premises by the Chairperson Lankaputhra Development Bank, Ms Kumudini
Kulathunga.
Minister of Provincial Councils, Road Development, Power and
Construction and Fisheries, North Western Province, Sanath Nishantha and
the top management of Lankaputhra Development Bank were present.
At the ceremony, 100 small and medium scale entrepreneurs were given
loans, working women were given laptops to improve their IT knowledge
and fishermen were given boats and small fishing vessels. The loans are
given under the purview of Lankaputhra Development Bank, Wennapuwa
Branch Manager U. Ranatunga.
"The bank which has branches in Colombo, Hambantota, Polonnaruwa,
Kegalle, Kandy, Wennappuwa, Trincomalee and Batticaloa, will open a
branch in Jaffna," a spokesman for the bank said.
