Free tuition by retired teachers

A special voluntary project has been implemented by Kurunegala District Retired Govt. School Teachers' Association to assist low-income students of the Kurunegala District who sit for the G.C.E.(O/L) Examination 2013 in December.

Accordingly, main subjects such as Mathematics, English, Science, History, Religions, English Literature and Arts would be taught free to them. About 5,000 students would benefit from this program and 120 experienced and retired teachers would offer their services and expertise at week-ends and during school vacations to enable these students to get better results at the exam.

The former Divisional Secretary for Bingiriya W.E. Jayathilake told Sunday Observer that Bingiriya Government. Pensioners' Association has consented in providing a donation of Rs. 500,000 to print model question papers, and to get necessary stationery for this purpose.

"Free tea and refreshments too would be offered to students who attend these extra classes", Jayathilake said.
