Educated youth vital to develop country

A government servant’s main duty is to solve the problems of the public. At a time the Government has implemented massive development projects across the country, getting the educated youth involved in these projects will help get the maximum out of these projects.

The service rendered by government servants can’t be measured in monetary terms, Postal Services Minister Jeevan Kumaratunga said.

The Government has provided exployment to thousands of graduates in the Government sector. Employment was provided to graduates based on educational qualifications and not to get political mileage. The Government did not want to marginalise graduates the way some previous governments did, the Minister said.

The Minister was addressing an event at the Moratuwa Divisional Secretariat Office to present confirmation letters to graduates who had completed a one-year training course.

He said terrorism in the North and violence in the South claimed the lives of thousands of youth in the country. Leaving no room for conspirators to pull the country down the precipice, the Government led by President Mahinda Rajapaksa took timely moves to divert the country towards development, he said.
