The Chief Executive Officer, Power Generation Services, General Electric, USA, Karl Fessenden called on Power and Energy Minister, Pavithra Wanniarachchi at her Ministry. He expressed the United States willingness to provide latest technical expertise on energy development. Power and Energy Ministry Secretary, M.M.C. Ferdinando was also present.

Four hundred and sixty eight graduates in the Galle district received teaching appointments at a ceremony at the Southern Province Education Ministry recently. Here Governor, Southern Province Dr. Kumari Balasuriya presents an appointment letter to a graduate. Chief Minister, Southern Province, Shan Wijelal de Silva, Minister of Education, S.P. Chandima Rasaputra are also in the picture.

Director General of Government Information, Prof. Ariyaratna Athugala presented several publications of the Department of Government Printing to the Librarian of the Jaffna Library, Mrs. E. Karunakaran recently. Deputy Director Hilmy Mohamed was also present.

The Sri Lanka Housewives’ Association, Colombo branch held its July meeting at
St. Paul’s Church Hall, Bambalapitiya. The event was sponsored by McCurrie, the spices and ready-to-eat products manufacturer, which included a demonstration by the company’s In-house Chef, D.A. Piyadasa. The Chef had worked at the Banana Leaf Restaurant in Brisbane, Australia and the Hilton Colombo for over 5 years before joining the McCurrie team

Four high schoolers have set up a fund-raising organisation ‘Club Auxilio’ to help those in need. The founders of the group are Vinuri Dissanayake, Dewni Thilakawardhne, Aravinthan Vijaykumar and Ranul Edirisinghe. The students are between 17-18 years.
A week after setting up the Club, the students organised a bake sale at the La Petite Fleur School in Dehiwela and Ratmalana to raise funds. Twenty volunteers worked relentlessly to ensure that the project was a success. A donation of Rs. 20,000 was given to the Mother Teresa Foundation, Moratuwa to set up a toddler program for children between 1-2 years.
