Antonian Rugby Carnival on August 17
St. Anthony's College, Kandy (SACK) has remained one of the leading
Division 'A' schools in rugby in Sri Lanka over the past few decades
since its introduction to the sport in 1956, being firmly placed among
the top ten rugby-playing schools in the island and having produced
renowned ruggerites who have risen on the world stage such as Priyantha
Ekanayake, former Sri Lanka Rugby Captain and President of the Sri Lanka
Rugby Football Union (SLRFU), as well as having contributed
significantly to Sri Lankan rugby by outfitting Sri Lanka's national
team with talented players.
The brainchild of the Antonians Rugby Trust Fund (ARTF), the tag
rugby carnival primarily staged at CR & FC on the 17th of November 2012
was a resounding success with over 2,000 old Antonians, their families
and well-wishers attending the event.
The second chapter of the Antonian Rugby Carnival which will take
place at CR & FC on the 17th of August 2013 proves to be even more
promising as over 3,000 current students, past pupils and their families
are expected to be present at the event which will be telecasted live.
The event will incorporate a fun-filled carnival atmosphere catering
especially to past students and their families with fun for the whole
family including a kids play area, a firework show, a DJ, rollicking
papare and a live performance by the popular local band 'Solid'
featuring songstress Corin Almeda. The Rugby Carnival is the perfect
opportunity for old boys to reconnect and catch up with their old
schoolmates and reminisce about their golden school days.
The rugby tournament will consist of two categories, namely the
Veterans (over 40 years) and the New Generation (under 40 years).
