The Southern Province topped the recent Year 5 Scholarship
Examination after over 62 years.
The fact that the Hambantota district excelled at the examination
during the past three years augurs well for Sri Lanka's goal of becoming
Asia's hub of knowledge, said Southern Province Education Minister
Chandima Rasaputra at a press briefing at the Ministry recently.
He said the special educational program organised by the Ministry
targeting the scholarship examination had helped enhance the students'
knowledge. Evaluation of the students' knowledge could also improve
their performance. Of a total of 40,299 students who sat for the
scholarship examination, 4,702 had obtained marks above the cut-off
point, he said.
