Fresh milk for 15424 pre school children

A program to provide a free cup of fresh milk has been launched to promote nutritional levels of pre-school children who study at pre-schools in the Kurunegala District.Accordingly, 15,244 pre-school children attached to 553 pre-schools would benefit from this program.

This scheme is implemented under the "Mahinda Chinthanaya" concept by the Ministry of Child Development and Women's Affairs. Each student is provided with 150 ml of fresh milk daily and about 45,732 litres of fresh milk are required monthly for this purpose.

The Government will spend a Rs. 2.7 million monthly and a 17 million rupees has been set aside for this purpose by the government.

Dayasiri Jayasekara, the new Chief Minister of the NWP-PC revealing these facts recently at a meeting of provincial journalists of the Kurunegala District said that this program would be continued further to encourage dairy farmers of the Kurunegala District and to offer them with a good price for their milk production.
