Teacher transfers streamlined in Kurunegala district

Ministry of Education has decided to give transfers to all school teachers of 325 national schools in the country who have served more than 10 years at the same school continously.

This move will come into effect since January 2014 and around 4000 school teachers would thus be given transfers to remote and underprivileged schools in the island.

Some school teachers are reported to have served for more than twenty years at the same school continously.

Some school teachers have completed their full service until retirement at the same school.

That is why this novel move is to be carried out with effect from next year. Teachers' Unions too are clamouring to implement a reasonable procedure of teachers' transfers for a long time. Consequently, teachers who have longer periods of service at the same school would be given transfers to equalise the imbalance of distribution of teachers islandwide, said the Director of Education W.M. Jayasooriya at a meeting of school heads of both Kurunegala and Puttalam Districts of the NWP held recently in Kurunegala.
