Say no to Independent Groups
"Independent candidacy is an unwise notion and unworkable endeavour"
said Chairman of Puttalam Urban Council and the Chief SLFP Organiser for
Puttalam Electorate, K.A. Baiz addressing a gathering organised by
Puttalam Rate Payers Association at Puttalam town hall recently.
Baiz briefed that "in the aftermath of the Muslim community missed
the opportunity of electing its own representative to the North Western
Province, some quarters, unwisely still deliberate on putting forward an
independent team in the elections that are to come.
The notion of independent candidacy not only unworkable but also
unwise. Failure to have their own representatives in the North Western
Provincial Council is absolutely the blunt mistake on the part of the
Muslim community of Puttalam electorate when the government, once again,
ensures its landslide victory in the recent Provincial Polls.
It is also pathetic the community pitifully failed to elect its own
members despite the fact that they are the majority in the electorate.
Although the community was unable to elect its own members the
Government did not let them down.
It has offered the community a bonus seat in the NWP.
It is therefore, the responsibility of the think tank of Puttalam
electorate to say "No" for independent candidacy in any election in
future.
