Boost for cinnamon cultivation in South

The Department of Export Agriculture will promote cinnamon cultivation in the Southern region.

The better and high-yielding strains of cinnamon Sri Vijaya and Sri Gemunu have already been introduced to growers according to Director (Research) K.G.G. Wijesinhe of the Cinnamon Research Station at Palolpitiya in Thihagoda.

In addition, the latest methodologies of cinnamon cultivation,nursery control, addressing problems affecting cultivators, scientific methods of growing and also producing novel varieties of high quality cinnamon plants have been introduced for cinnamon farmers by the research station.
