Plan to increase public nutrition levels

The Government, recognising the need to produce a healthy population, has formulated a plan to increase the nutrition level of people.

The country has entered a phase of rapid growth and development and therefore, the workforce has to be transformed into a productive human resource which is physically and mentally fit to meet the challenges, officials said.

According to the Government, the general population needs adequate nutrition for them to be healthy and productive.

The improvement of nutrition levels among all age groups and segments of the population up to the required level needs intervention not only from the health sector, but also from stakeholders in other sectors such as education, agriculture and livestock.

A Multi-Sector Action Plan for Nutrition has therefore been introduced by the Government, which has recognised that an improvement in nutrition requires a multi-sectoral approach.

The Plan comprises activities formulated by a panel of experts under the guidance of the National Nutrition Council in keeping with globally accepted standards of nutrition.
