Crime rate on the decline

The number of grave crimes such as homicide reported through out the country during the past six years has dropped with around 584 murders reported last year, a recent report by the Police Headquarters revealed. According to the report 1378 murder cases were reported in 2008,

Drug suspect hacked to death

A 33-year-old man who was released on bail for a drug offence had been found killed with his throat slit with a sharp object near the Gothatuwa bund on the IDH road last morning. Wellampitiya Police found the body of the victim identified as Mohamed Nishabdeen Mohamed Risvan on a tip off.

Although I never knew her personally my weekend started with a shocking wake up call from a friend on Sunday morning that Mel Gunasekera has been murdered at her residence.
