MICE tourism targets $ 200 m revenue this year
The Meeting, Incentives Conference and Exhibition
(MICE) tourism sector targets around US$ 200 million this year, said
Sri Lanka Convention Bureau (SLCB), General Manager Vipula
Wanigasekera. He said that the MICE sector which achieved a revenue
of around US$ 160 million last year attracted around 129,000
visitors to the country.

NCC to re-open wood-carving village
The Ministry of Traditional Industries and Small
Enterprises will open the reconstructed traditional wood carving
village in Horana on Tuesday. It was revived by the National Craft
Council (NCC). NCC Chairman Buddhi Keerthisena said that four small
villages, Olaboduwa, Batuwita, Bandarawatte and Mawgama in the
Kalutara district have been integrated under this traditional
wood-carving development program.

Prepaid bus tickets: Bus owners urge transparency
The Ministry of Private Transport Services and
the National Transport Commission (NTC) launched a prepaid ticketing
service for private buses last week in partnership with Mobitel and
the People's Bank. This is the second prepaid bus ticketing system
introduced by the transport authorities and in June 2011 a similar
service was launched with the telecommunication company Dialog
Axiata.
