Dengue breeders fined Rs. 198,000

Twenty two suspects who were produced in court on the charges of
breeding dengue mosquitoes in their premises, were fined Rs. 198,000 by
Kalutara Additional Magistrate Ayesha Abdeen.
Eight of the suspects were fined Rs. 10,000 each while 14 others Rs.
9,000 each. In addition to the fine, they were sentenced to six months
in jail, suspended for five years.
The inspection in the Aluthgama area was carried out by the
administrative PHI R.A. Sinhabahu, Beruwala PHI Gamini Samaratunga and
Aluthgama Acting PHI Muditha Samarasinghe on the instructions of the
Kalutara Deputy National Health Institute Director Dr. Lakmini
Nagodaratna.Meanwhile the administrative PHI R.A. Sinhabahu said that
the Aluthgama PHI K. Dhanushka was among the team that engaged in the
Dengue prevention program, had fallen a victim himself of dengue and
receiving treatment in a critical condition at the Nagoda Hospital,
Kalutara.
He said that several other positive dengue cases had been reported
from the Aluthgama area, which had now been declared a high risk zone.
