President Rajapaksa to attend G77 summit
President Mahinda Rajapaksa is expected to visit Bolivia in mid June
to take part in the Group 77 summit due to be held on June 14 and 15,
official sources said. He will be accompanied by the President's
Secretary Lalith Weeratunga and External Affairs Minister Prof. G.L.
Peiris.According to the organisers of the summit, heads of State of
Iran, Cuba, Argentina, Ecuador, El Salvador and Costa Rica have so far
confirmed attendance in the summit, besides UN Secretary General Ban ki-Moon
who is due in Santa Cruz, the host city, as early as June 13 to take
part in several pre-events.
G77 is the largest inter-governmental organisation of developing
countries within the UN system with a membership of 133. Sri Lanka is
one of the founding members of the G77.
