Police officer assaulted on Southern Expressway

A Police officer who was on his way for duty on the Souther Expressway had been severely assaulted by an armed gang that had subsequently torched his car on Friday night, the police said.

The officer attached to the Police Post at Dodangoda Interchange of the Southern Expressway was on his way for duty in his car when a mob in a double cab had blocked his way in Bombuwala.The gang had dragged the officer out of the vehicle and had assaulted him prior to setting fire to the vehicle.

The officer who was in a serious condition had been rushed to Nagoda Hospital.

Several police teams are conducting the investigations. The motive for the attack is yet to be ascertained.
