Mother Teresa
Mother Teresa was born in Skopje, Albania in 1910 and her first name
was Anjeze Gonxhe Bojaxhiu. In 1948 she became an Indian citizen. After
that Sister Agnes became Sister Teresa.
She was awarded the first John XXIII peace prize, the Jawaharlal
Nehru prize in 1972, the Albert Schweitzer prize in 1975, the Nobel
Peace prize in 1979 and the Indian highest civilian decoration for her
work to relieve the sufferings of the poor, sick and dying. She was
internationally respected for her work.
Mother Teresa died in 1997 at the age of 87. She ended her life in
Calcutta. Although she is no more, the best work she started is still
alive. "A drop of deliverance in an ocean of suffering." This was the
single phrase she often used to describe her life's work.

Value of trees
Trees are useful to both man and animal. They cannot live without
trees. Trees provide us with food, medicine, timber and shelter. They
save us from the harmful rays of the sun.
We get rain because of trees which play an important role in the
water cycle. Trees control soil erosion. The environment becomes
beautiful because of trees. The Earth is a cool and a bright place
because of trees.
Most people do not realise the value of trees. They cut down trees
for their needs in a careless manner. If a tree is cut down, we must
always plant another tree in its place. If we destroy trees, the Earth
would become a desert.
Let us protect trees and save our planet.

Environmental pollution
The environment is the surrounding where we live. It provides us with
the main things we need to live such as food, water and air. The
environment consists of rivers, lakes, oceans, mountains, trees, birds,
animals and everything around us.
In ancient times, our ancestors respected and protected the
environment. They did not use it only for their well-being, but also for
the future.
At present people do not care about others. They only try to fulfil
their selfish desires. They destroy the environment by polluting it.
Pollution takes place in many ways. They are water pollution, land
pollution, air pollution and sound pollution.
They cut down trees for money. Cutting trees leads to soil erosion
and earthslips. Harmful gases which are released from factories and
vehicles cause air pollution. People throw garbage into rivers and other
waterways. It paves the way to water pollution. The loud sounds emitted
from factories, vehicles and music centres cause sound pollution.
Intelligent people must try to make this world a better place to live
in. We must enforce rules and regulations when using the environment.
Garbage should be disposed of in a proper way. Recycling garbage is one
of the successful ways which makes the environment clean. There should
be strict rules to prevent the felling of trees. Reforestation should be
promoted.
They should use public vehicles. The owners of vehicles which emit
harmful gases and noise should be fined.
Let us all join hands to protect the environment given to us by
mother nature for a better future.

Causes of obesity
In the past, people were healthy and active. They did not have any
electric machines to do their work. Now the situation is different.
People always eat fast food which is full of carbohydrates and oil which
cause obesity.
People put on weight and become fat. With modernisation there are
many electric machines. People wash their clothes using washing machines
and even cook their meals with the help of microwaves. People no longer
do manual work. Some people spend hours in front of the television and
computer. This means that they do not do any exercise during their
leisure. People travel by vehicle even for a small distance instead of
walking.
Today, many people are not healthy. Being obese is not good for the
health. When people are obese they fall ill and new hospitals will have
to be opened to treat their illnesses. We must lead a simple life and
keep our bodies healthy.
