Livestock development projects in South

The Southern Provincial Agricultural Ministry has taken steps to
enhance the animal husbandry and livestock development projects in the
region.
The setting up of dairy farm villages, cattle and buffalo
reproduction centres, construction and reconstruction of cattle sheds,
distribution of hybrid cows at concessionary rates among dairy farmers,
development of grass land through the cultivation of quality grass,
setting up milk collecting centres and sale centres, distribution of
liquid milk collecting appliances, development of small and medium scale
poultry farms and many other promotional activities are included in
these development programs, Assistant Directress of the SPC Department
of Animal Production and Health H.D.S. Ramanayake said.
Many of these projects were successfully implemented last year as
well in the Matara district. It has also targeted to further enhance the
number of these projects this year too she said.
The Central Government and Southern Provincial Council funds are
spent in this regard. The economic empowerment of families engaged in
animal husbandry and livestock development activities is expected
through these endeavours, Assistant Directress H.D.S. Ramanayake said. |
