Bee-keeping, a thriving industry

The Wayamba Agriculture Department has taken steps to encourage farmers to take to bee-keeping due to the high price for bee-honey which is scarce in the market.

The bee-keeping boxes, bee communities, and technical know-how will be provided to the farmers. At present bee-keeping has become a lucrative industry in Mawatagama, Polgahawella, Dambadeniya Dodamgaslanda, Wariyapola, Hiriyala, Anamaduwa and Navagattegama areas.

In addition to native doctors, the tourist hotels too place orders for bee honey the agricultural instructor said.
