Fine fare at BMW Golf Cup International 2014

GOLF: The BMW Golf Cup International, sponsored by Prestige Automobile, was held for the fourth consecutive year at the Royal Colombo Golf Club (RCGC). One of the most soughtafter golf tournaments in the country, the event saw 230 golf enthusiasts teeing off to win the exciting awards at hand.

Held under two categories - BMW Golf Cup-International Open and BMW Owners-with a shotgun start, many golfing enthusiasts were able to enjoy a competitive game while amassing experience. The BMW Golf Cup International Open was carried out under four categories-Gentlemen 'A' Division, Gentlemen 'B' Division, Ladies and Seniors where the winners of each respective category was awarded with a fully paid business class ticket to fly to Singapore.

The BMW Owners' category winners, which was divided as Gentlemen 'A' Division, Gentlemen 'B' Division and Ladies, will get the opportunity to participate in the BMW International Golf Tournament, to be held in March 2015 in Sydney, Australia.

All costs for the journey to the BMW International Golf Tournament, including accommodation and the air fare, will be borne by Prestige Automobile, the local agent of BMW.

Runners-up of each category also received exciting trophies and gifts while two special events, Longest Drive to the 15th hole and Nearest to the Pin on the 9th hole, added more delight and fun prizes for the golfers to vie for.

From the BMW Owners Category winners and runners-up of each respective division were - Gentlemen 'A' Division. Amrith de Soysa - Winner, Noordeen Sethwala - Runner-up; Gentlemen 'B' Division: Liu Laifu - Winner, S. Balasubramanium - Runner-up.

Ladies: Shayanika Fernando - Winner, Niloo Jayathilake - Runner-up.

From the BMW Golf Cup International Open category winners and runners up of each respective division were: - Gentlemen 'A' Division: Rajeeve Rajapaksa - Winner, Harsha Abeywickrama- Runner up: Gentlemen 'B' Division: A.W.M. Reza - Winner, Rohan Fernandez-Runner up, Senior category: Nihal Boralessa - Winner, Prasanna Goonethilake - Runner up; and Ladies: R. Sangani - Winner, Sharon Hall - Runner up.

The tournament was concluded with a gala awards ceremony to which the Ambassador of Germany to Sri Lanka, Dr. Jurgen Morhard and wife participated as chief guests.
