Brazilian President Rousseff leads among women

25 Oct CHINADAILY

Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff, who is to compete in a presidential runoff Sunday, leads among women and people aged above 35, according to a poll released .

The survey by polling firm Datafolha shows that Rousseff, with a supporting rate of 47 percent, is generally ahead of her rival Aecio Neves, with 43 percent support, though 4 percent of the electorate remains undeclared and could potentially swing the vote.

The new poll differs from earlier surveys by the same firm showing the opposition in the lead.Among women, Rousseff enjoys 54 percent of support versus 46 percent for Neves.

Among men, she also leads, with 51 percent of support, but as the poll has a margin of error of two percentage points, the candidates are actually in a technical tie.

As many as 55 percent of the voters aged between 45 and 59 support Rousseff, and 52 percent of the voters aged 60 and above support her, while Neves leads among young voters in the 16-24 age bracket with 55 percent support.

Among college-educated voters, Neves enjoys 60 percent of support versus 40 percent for Rousseff. But among voters with middle-school education, Rousseff leads with 61 percent of support.

Among voters with high-school education, the candidates are technically tied.Rousseff led in northern and northeastern regions, while Neves takes the lead in midwestern, southeastern and southern regions.

With only a few days to go before the runoff, Rousseff is looking stronger than before in most age, education-level and income brackets, as Neves is losing some ground. However, the election is still far from decided. Polls preceding the first-round vote on Oct. 5 failed to predict Neves as the runner-up.
