'Divi Neguma' moving from strength to strength - Minister Kumaranatunga

The Opposition looked at Government implemented infrastructure or livelihood development projects with a crooked eye.

They kept saying that state sponsored welfare programs will come to a halt and foreign aid will be stopped, but none of that has happened, Postal Services Minister Jeevan Kumaranatunga said.

He said that President Mahinda Rajapaksa did not fear such threats, instead he introduced people-oriented development programs. He restored peace in the country after eliminating the LTTE.

While combating terror a large number of development projects were also implemented by the Government, the Minister said.

Ranil Wickremesinghe during his regime drafted plans to wipe out the state sector and cut Samurdhi relief.

Contrary to his statement the "Samurdhi program was strengthened by the Government", he said.

The Opposition is still looking for a colour to comtest against the Government and is conspiring to sabotage development work. We condemn the statement made by the Opposition as to 'whether carpetted roads were laid to sleep or whether major irrigation projects were inaugurated to swim', he said.

The Opposition had a mechanism to wipe off the agriculture sector by reclaiming paddy lands.

The people of this country know them well, he said.
