New lease of life for Wayamba rural banks

The Wayamba Co-operative Development Department has improved the quality of to 34 selected rural banks at a cost of Rs. 5.4 million in the area.

By this the management hopes to attract more customers in the Kurunegala and Puttalam districts.

New loan schemes for customers to engage in profitable self-employment projects and other business have been introduced this year. Rs 4000 million rupees is expected to be granted as soft leans this year, a senior official of the Ministry of Co-operatives said.

Employees of the Wayamba co-operative Development Department would receive a handsome salary increase this year," said NWP Chief Minister Dayasiri Jayasekara.
