The Northern province needs assistance to develop the fisheries,
agriculture and other sectors to international standard said Chairman
Northern Provincial Council C. Sivagnanam.
Speaking at the opening of the sixth edition of the Jaffna
International Trade Fair (JITF), the most ‘looked forward to’ exhibition
in the North opened at the Jaffna Municipal Grounds on Friday and
concludes today he said the exhibition is an ideal venue for that.
He said that they want to contribute more to the national GDP and
expertise would help the Northern entrepreneurs further improve their
innovative and traditional businesses. “We want to march towards
prosperity in a peaceful and enterprising manner,” he said. Consul
General of India in Jaffna, A. Natarajan invited more Indian Northern
businessmen to participate in this event in the future.
The New President of Yalpanam Chamber of Commerce, Kularatnam Vignesh
said a new economic policy is needed to develop the Northern province.
The JITF 2015 has over 270 stalls from various sectors including
construction, hospitality, food beverage and packing, automobile, ICT,
financial services, apparel, agricultural, consumer goods and many
others along with an education pavilion Kalvi with some of Colombo's and
Jaffna's most sought after education service providers exhibiting.
Sterling Automobile is the main sponsor for JITF 2015 with Industrial
Asphalts (Ceylon) as the Co-Sponsor with Mobitel, Lanka Hospitals,
Multilac Paints, Bank of Ceylon and Famous Pacific Shipping partnering
as official sponsors.
The Sunday Observer and the Daily News are the print media sponsors
for the event while Consulate General of India - Jaffna, Federation of
Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Sri Lanka (FCCISL), Ceylon Institute
of Builders (CIOB), Sri Lanka Convention Bureau (SLCB) and the Jaffna
Municipal Council support the event.
