Kandy SC remain on top with convincing 37-3 win over Police

Table leaders Kandy Sports Club after being contained in the first
half, got their act together in the second session to post a comfortable
37 points (three goals, two tries, two penalties) 3 (one penalty) to win
over Police Sports Club in their Dialog A Division League rugby match
played at Longden Place yesterday after leading 15-0 at the 'breather'.

The lads from the Kandy SC opened scoring in the 16th minutes. Number
Eight Shashika Jayawardene scored by the right corner flag. Scrum half
Roshan Weeraratne missed the conversion.
They increased their lead, when their South African flanker
Christopher Cloete dived over for a try by the near the posts to give
Roshan Weeraratne an easy kick at goal and Kandy led 12-0.
On the stroke of half time, Roshan Weeraratne made no mistake with
the 20-metre penalty to give the visitors a 15-0 lead at 'lemons.'.
In the 10th minute of the second half, Kandy SC winger Lavanga Perera
sped over 40 metres to score under the posts and Fazil Marija added the
extra points to make 22-nil.
The Policemen reduced the deficit when centre Samantha Lakshan put
over 30-metre penalty and the score read 22-3.
In the 17th minute, Kandy SC's Kenyan cenre Oscar Oumar crashed
through for a try mid left. Roshan Weeraratne fluffed the conversion.
Seven minutes later, Kandy SC went ahead further, when Roshan
Weeraratne fired across a 20-metre penalty and Kandy SC led 30-3. In the
20th minute of the second half, Kandy SC fly half Fazil Marija made a
break but was held by a Police defender but managed to slip out a pass
to winger Oshan Perera who dashed through 40 metres to score under the
posts to give Roshan Weeraratne an easy kick at goal and Kandy SC ran
out worthy winners by 37-3 to remain on top of the Dialog 'A' Division
points table.
Navy have it easy
Navy Sports Club scored a runaway 43 points (four goals, three tries)
to 8 (one try, one penalty) win over Army Sports Club in their Dialog
'A' Division League rugby match played at Welisara yesterday after
leading 31-3 at half time.
Winger Vishwamithra Jayasinghe (two), lock forward Sajith Saranga
(one), centre Setafano (one), Alafigif (one), Lio Nisakco (one) and
Number Eight Bilal Hassan (one) scored tries for Navy with full back
Riza Mubarak converting four tries.
For Army SC, winger Shashan Mohamed scored the solitary try with full
back Gayan Salinda putting over a penalty.
