Kandy District clinch Junior National Hockey Championship beating
Matale 3-2 in final
Junior Hockey National...... Kandy District Team clinched the 41st
Junior National Hockey Championship when they beat Matale District by 3
goals to 2 in the final of Hockey Tournament held at the Bogambara
Stadium last Sunday (March 16).
T.S. Ubeysiri - the Centre forward of Kandy District scored all three
goals in the second half of the game while N.K. Villavearchchi and S.U.B.
Herath scored a goal end for the Matale District team.
Ajith Manjula and C.H. Bandara umpired.
The third place was won by Sri Lanka Army who beat Sri Lanka Schools
(gold) by 2 goals to nil.
The following 10 teams participated in the three-day tournament:
Colombo District Schools (gold), Sri Lanka Army, Matara District Schools
(Maroons), Mercantile team, Matale District team, Gampaha District team,
Wennappuwa District, Kandy district and Kalutara District.
Veteran hockey coaches J. Jayatissa, H.M. Mithripala and G.G.
Dharmaparatne were also felicitated at the function.
